He did not seek reelection in 2008 and has rejoined the law firm of Hogan and Hartson, where he worked before joining the Department of Defense.","He grew up in Washington D.C. and joined the Navy shortly after graduating from high school, leaving as a Petty Officer 3rd Class. He then did his undergraduate studies at Washington and Lee University and began post-graduate studies at University of Virginia Law School.","With the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, Warner joined the Marine Corps, first in active duty and then as a reserve, finally earning the rank of Captain. He resumed his studies at George Washington University and received his law degree in 1953.","He has been married three times. His first marriage was to Catherine Conover Mellon in 1957; they divorced in 1973. He was married to actress Elizabeth Taylor in 1976; they divorced in 1982. Since 2003, he has been married to Jeanne Vander Myde. He has three children, all from his first marriage.","In 1987, he was one of few Republicans to reject the nomination of Robert Bork to the Supreme Court. He would later break with Virginia Republicans, refusing to support the campaigns of Mike Farris and Oliver North. In 1996, he was one of ten Republican Senators voting against the charge of perjury in the attempted impechment of President Bill Clinton.","His committee memberships included the Environment and Public Works Committee, the Committee on the Armed Services, the Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, the Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs.","This collection includes general and constituent correspondence, office files, speeches, appointment books, photographs, scrapbooks, and clippings documenting Senator Warner's life and career.","A note regarding consituent correspondence: only in rare instances did the Senator's office keep outgoing corespondence. Project records, 1980 - 2013, undated","Born November 27, 1952, in Geneva, Switzerland, Diane Elliott Gayer is an architect, environmentally conscious designer, teacher, artist, and writer who has mostly practiced in the United States. From 1976 to 1979 Gayer attended a Masters in Architecture Program at the University of Colorado, Denver. There, she completed a thesis project proposing a mixed-use hospital expansion for the National Jewish Hospital-University of Colorado Medical Center complex. After graduating, she took a job at Marvin E. Knedler \u0026 Associates, and her work there led to other opportunities at the firms Duff, Reck, and Lehman Architects, and later at Michael Gaviglio \u0026 Associates. In 1983, she and her husband/business partner Geoff Kampe established their own practice, Artemis Designs, Inc., where they worked as a team to design the Left Bank Townhouses in Lakewood, Colorado, an infill project on reclaimed land. While still living in Colorado, she developed and taught teacher training programs in environmental education and served as architect in residence for the Colorado Arts Council and environmental design consultant for the Gifted and Talented Program of the Jefferson County School District. In 1988, Gayer relocated to Vermont to work as an associate architect at the University of Vermont.","Over the years, she has taught at Norwich University, the University of Vermont (UVM), and at the Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Waitsfield, Vermont. She also worked as architect, planner, and environmental designer at Diane Elliott Gayer Associates in Hinesburg, Vermont. From 1991-1997, Gayer served on the advisory board of the Vermont Design Institute (VDI), a non-profit design and community development collaborative based in Burlington, Vermont, that had grown out of an outreach effort of the Vermont Council on the Arts. From 1995 to 2016, she served as its director. As a teacher, she regularly pulled design problems and case studies from her work as a planner, and, conversely, would use student input and solutions to inform her approach to design. Many student projects and course materials make mention of VDI projects, like the Historic Main Street Study of St. Johnsbury or the Old Main building renovations at the UVM campus.","She's devoted her career to examining what architecture can do and to building a more sustainable future through community empowerment. The Dames’ mission is to promote sportsmanship and community by \n    providing an alternative form of fitness and entertainment to the women and men of Charlottesville and surrounding counties.","The idea to form a derby team in Charlottesville began back in 2007 with founding members Jessika Daver and Phenol Barbie Doll. By October of that year the Dames had \n    recruited more team members and began to practice. The Dames made their public debut in 2008 when three CDD members (Little Miss Pissed, MatilDa Molish, Dark and Stormy) played in Commotion by the Ocean, a roller derby event in Virginia Beach. In 2009 the Dames hosted their first home bout, Daylight Slayings, featuring Charlottesville Derby Dames v. Northside Stranglers at Expoland.","The league has steadily grown to around 60 members. As of January 2011, the league grew to two bouting teams drafted for skill equality at the start of the \n    season, generally referred to as \"split teams\" (the Downtown Maulers and the Blue Ridge Bombshells), plus a travel team comprised of reliable, devoted, and skilled \n    skaters (the All-Stars). By the end of 2012, the team added a second travel team (now known as the Belmont Bruisers) and elected to keep the split teams primarily for \n    intraleague scrimmages. In addition, the league comprises many trainers, coaches, refs, NSOs, and non-skating members.
