Please consult a staff member for assistance.","Frank Shatz was born in Czechoslovakia and is a writer, Virginia Gazette columnist and lecturer at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.A holocaust survivor, Shatz escaped from a Nazi slave labor camp in Romania and participated in underground anti-Nazi movements in Hungary. He worked as a journalist in Prague before escaping Communist rule with his wife Jaroslava. Shatz was the founder of the Lake Placid (N.Y.) Council on Foreign Policy. He and his wife created the Frank and Jaroslava Diplomat-in-Residence endowment at the College of William and Mary.","Collection formerly identified as: Mss. The society has used the acronym SAR to identify themselves for over 100 years.The SAR was conceived as a fraternal and civic society composed of lineal descendants of the men who wintered at Valley Forge, signed the Declaration of Independence, fought in the battles of the American Revolution, served in the Continental Congress, or otherwise supported the cause of American Independence. The National Society was chartered by an Act of the United States Congress on June 9, 1906. The application for a Williamsburg Chapter charter was made at the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution Annual meeting on February 22, 1969, in Richmond. VA. On April 15, 1969 they received a charter, having at that time 11 members, 15 applicants processing papers and 23 prospects.
