He then attended WVU, where he boarded in the house of Ann Dinardi and played for the basketball team under Coach Fred Schaus, earning a number of honors and awards.","After graduating in 1960, he began a very successful 14-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers, and co-captained the 1960 U.S. Olympic gold medal team in Rome. She was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.A. in history and a B.S. in education in 1969. She received her Master of Arts degree in history from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.","Upon graduation with her Ph.D. in history from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1976, she worked as a a regional preservation officer for the Ohio Historic Preservation Office at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. In 1980, she joined the faculty of the Department of History at West Virginia University, where she developed and led the Public History Program. Between 1998 and 2008, Howe led the WVU Center for Women's Studies as director. Growing up in Maine and New Hampshire, Lillian was a competitive student and athlete. Her career in social sciences began at Colby College, from which she received her BA in History. She went on to earn her MA in History at Bowling Green State University before teaching the same subject at Parsons College for three years. Lillian then attended the University of Massachusetts-Amherst where she completed her Ph.D. in History.","Her 1973 move to Morgantown, West Virginia, with husband David Yelton marked the beginning of her impact as a women's rights advocate in the community. She was an instrumental cofounder for the Morgantown chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW), serving as an officer, and contributing decades of advocacy for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). Lillian helped to form the Rape Information Services (now Rape and Domestic Violence Information Center). This was the first shelter of its kind in West Virginia. She was also one of the early creators and faculty of West Virginia University's new Women's Studies Department (nowthe Center for Women's and Gender Studies). In addition to her role as a professor, Lillian led the WVU Women's Centenary project as its director in 1991 to collect and archive materials about the first century of women legally educated in West Virginia. The project aligned with her research interests in the early coeducation of women and women's labor. Born in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1888, he attended the École des Beaux-Arts, and then came to Bluefield in 1912 to set up his office. He was the architect for the West Virginia Hotel (1923), and for many major residential buildings in the south Bluefield area, including the Country Club and the Country Club Hill section. He also designed many of the buildings on the Evansdale Campus at West Virginia University in the 1960s, including the Towers residence halls and the Creative Arts Center.
