The Orum and Eskey families lived in Sherrard, in Marshall County, WV, from the early 1800s through the early 1900s, when some family members moved to the Pittsburgh area. The Orum family farm in Sherrard was sold around 1929. The McCaffery family came to the US in 1851 and settled in Sherrard, where one member married into the Eskey family. One of the three was constructed in Lexington, Virginia, on the site of what is now VMI. The Lexington Arsenal opened in 1818 under the command of Captain James Paxton, and the guard stationed there was responsible for approximately 30,000 stand of arms. Although the size of the detachment stationed at the Arsenal varied somewhat from year to year, it generally consisted of the captain, a sergeant, one or two corporals, ten to thirteen privates, and a few employees, among whom were musicians. Johnson(1829-1903) was born in\n         Frederick, Maryland, son of \n         Charles Worthington Johnsonand \n         Eleanor Murdock (Tyler) Johnson, grandson\n         of Colonel \n         Baker Tyler Johnsonof the Continental\n         Army. He took a B.A. at \n         Princeton(1849), studied law and was\n         admitted to the bar in \n         Frederickin 1851. On June 25, 1851 he\n         married \n         Jane Claudia Saundersof \n         North Carolina. Johnson served as\n         Maryland State's Attorney, Chairman of the Maryland State\n         Democratic Committee, and delegate to both National\n         Conventions of 1860. He was instrumental in the formation of \"\n         The Maryland Line, \" a regiment of\n         Marylanders who chose to fight for the South, and was elected\n         their Colonel in 1862. On June 28, 1864, he was commissioned\n         brigadier general, partly on the strength of a long standing\n         recommendation from General \n         T. J. Jackson. In the last days of the\n         war he commanded cavalry under \n         Wade Hamptonand \n         Jubal Early. After the war, Johnson\n         practiced law in \n         Richmondand served in the Virginia Senate\n         (1875-1879). From 1879 to 1890 he practiced in \n         Baltimore. He died in \n         Amelia, Virginia, in 1903. Among his\n         published works are a life of Washington (1894) and A Memoir\n         of the Life and Public Service of Joseph E.
