Williams practiced medicine in Franklin County for 53 years and in Roanoke for ten years.  Dr. J.M. Williams married his first wife, Loulie Scott of Rocky Mount in December 1874.  After her death in 1918, he married Bessie Tompkins of Salem.  Dr. J.M. Williams died December 24, 1936.
