Three generations of Goodwin men served as Episcopal ministers. Frederick Deane Goodwin served parishes in Virginia. Edwin Lewis Goodwin was born in Nelson County, Va. and studied at the University of Virginia and at the Virginia Theological Seminary. He served parishes in Virginia and South Carolina, was historiographer of the Diocese of Virginia and author of The Colonial Church in Virginia. His son, Frederick D. Goodwin was Bishop of Virginia, 1944-1961.
