The name was change to the Virginia Athletic Commission by an act passed on March 11, 1952, and then to the Virginia Athletic Board in 1985. In 1998 the General Assembly passed legislation creating the Professional Boxing and Wrestling Program operating under the Dept. of Professional and Occupational Regulation to handle the duties of the earlier commissions and board.
