He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor and the French Croix de Guerre medal. After the war, he married his wife, Miriam Arnold of Eau Claire and became the Vice President in charge of road grading for L. G. Arnold Inc. in Eau Claire from 1947 through 1977. He also opened and operated Carr Associates and was a licensed professional engineer in Wisconsin and Virginia.
