Dedication of the Hearth Memorial to the Enslaved.","The Hearth Memorial to the Enslaved was created in response to research into William \u0026 Mary's history with slavery by students and faculty. Through assembly resolutions, the Board of Visitors acknowledged the university's involvement in slavery and established The Lemon Project: A Journey of Reconciliation in 2009 to study the relationship between African Americans and William \u0026 Mary. ","The Hearth was designed by William \u0026 Mary  alumnus Will Sendor '11 as a result of an international memorial design competition initiated by William \u0026 Mary  President Emeritus Taylor Reveley in 2018.
