Johnson was later appointed as the Dean of the College of Human Resources and Education from 1996 to her retirement in 2002. She earned her B.S. in Home Economics Education from Purdue University (1963) and taught high school home economics before attending graduate school at Cornell University. She would then earn her masters (1970) and doctoral degrees in Foods and Nutrition (1972). Dr. Johnson has been an active member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences since 1963. She is currently involved with the Nutrition, Health, and Food Management Division's Ethics Committee, and she is recognized as an AAFCS Leader.
