He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1939, having been elected class president his freshman, sophomore, and junior years. Following his graduation from Hampden-Sydney, he received a degree of divinity from the Union Presbyterian Seminary and a Ph.D. from Duke University. Reveley served in World War II and was a Presbyterian minister prior to becoming a professor, and later a dean, at Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College). In 1963, he became the 18th president of his alma mater, Hampden-Sydney College, a position that he held until his retirement in 1977. His efforts during his presidency resulted in a large increase in the student body, faculty, and endowment which reflects the modern college. He also oversaw the construction of new buildings on campus, including the current science building, and the modernization of the college curriculum. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1939, having been elected class president his freshman, sophomore, and junior years. Following his graduation from Hampden-Sydney, he received a degree of divinity from the Union Presbyterian Seminary and a Ph.D. from Duke University. Reveley served in World War II and was a Presbyterian minister prior to becoming a professor, and later a dean, at Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College). In 1963, he became the 18th president of his alma mater, Hampden-Sydney College, a position that he held until his retirement in 1977. His efforts during his presidency resulted in a large increase in the student body, faculty, and endowment which reflects the modern college. He also oversaw the construction of new buildings on campus, including the current science building, and the modernization of the college curriculum.
